ANNANDALE – The Mount Saint Mary College baseball team defeated Bard College on the road, scoring 15 runs.
Mount Saint Mary got off to a hot start against Bard College, the team that gave the Knights their rare tie last season. Christian Parisa would draw a lead-off walk to begin the game, then would get driven in by Aidan Marshall later in the inning. Stephen Volk was on a heater in this one, singling down the right field line to score another run. Volk was a career-best 4 for 5 on the day to go along with four RBIs. The Raptors evened things out in the bottom of the 1st with two runs of their own, thanks to a couple of walks and a hit by pitch. Bard would steal home in the bottom of the 3rd to take a short-lived 3-2 lead.
The Mount came back in the 4th with a five-run inning that included RBI singles from Christian Parisa, Noah Anderson, Stephen Volk, and a sacrifice fly from Richard Lamping.
The Raptors tacked on another run in the bottom of the inning to make it 7-4 MSMC. Mount Saint Mary’s offense came in spurts this game, including another huge inning in the 7th. Up 7-5, the Knights looked to pull away, and did just that. A lead-off single for Gregory Harrison blossomed into an eight-run inning for the Mount. This inning was highlighted by a two-RBI single from Stephen Volk, and RBI doubles from Richard Lamping and Nico Simou.
Ben Keil provided a much-needed 4.0 innings on the mound, earning himself the win, for a Knights team that would need as many fresh arms as they can get for their four conference games this weekend. Mount Saint Mary would come away with a 15-6 victory in seven innings.
