Bard Baseball Falls to RIT, 18-1 on Sunday

By Pearllan Cipriano

Bard baseball dropped a single game at RIT, 18-1, on Sunday afternoon at the RIT Baseball Complex.

Bard came out with early energy, striking first in the top of the opening inning. After a single from Lachlan Rudd and heads-up baserunning on an error, Jack Leandri delivered a sacrifice fly to bring home Rudd. However, the momentum quickly shifted as RIT responded with a four-run bottom half of the inning.

The Tigers continued to build their lead in the second and fifth innings, to extend the advantage to 7-1. RIT struck again in the sixth inning and Bard could not catch up.
Rudd and Cal Anna each recorded hits, while Jack Burcell added another to account for the team’s three total. On the mound, Graham Benway provided a steady stretch in relief, allowing just one earned run over 3.2 innings, while Ryan Lora had his second career start on the mound.

Bard will face USMMA on Wednesday for a non-conference match up at 6:30 p.m. before hosting the opening series on Friday against Union and celebrating its two seniors: Kane Morgan and Graham Williams.
