“2026 Take a Swing at Hunger Golf Classic” is Set

NEWBURGH – Meals on Wheels (MOW) of Greater Newburgh is hosting its sixth annual charity golf tournament, “Take a Swing at Hunger,” on Monday, July 20th at the beautiful and historic Powelton Club in Newburgh. All proceeds benefit Newburgh MOW, whose staff, and volunteers, cook and deliver hot, nutritious meals to the elderly and disabled in the City and Town of Newburgh, as well as New Windsor.

Tournament Director and MOW Board Vice President Joe Dirago said, “this year we have an ambitious goal to raise $25,000 to provide a free year-long supply of meals for our neediest clients.” The organization is seeking tax-deductible donations to sponsor the event. Corporate and individual donations are welcomed and will be recognized in the event program. Sponsorships range from $100 to $3,000 and in-kind gifts are accepted for our fantastic raffle prize auction.

The event features 18 holes of golf at the prestigious Powelton Club, one of the best courses in New York State. The challenging course hosted the last 4 tournaments and is an outstanding venue. “With a scramble format, this is a fun day for all. Foursome registrations are encouraged, but all are welcome,” said Dirago.

Early reduced fee golf registrations are accepted until May 31; final deadline for golf and sponsorships is June 30. In addition to greens fees and cart, the registration fee also includes breakfast, bar cart, cocktail hour, buffet dinner, dessert, and lots of prizes. There will be golf prizes for longest men’s and women’s drives; top foursomes; and closest-to-the-pin on all Par 3 holes.

Event day begins with breakfast at 8:30 am, shotgun start at 9:30 am, reception at 2:00 pm, and the dinner at 3:00 pm, followed by the Awards Ceremony, including drawing for prize and 50-50 raffles. MOW is a registered 501(c)(3) charity. There are no income or age restrictions for meal recipients.

MOW delivered more than 20,000 meals last year. There is a modest charge for those who can afford to pay, but that covers less than half of MOW’s expenses. The organization depends on donations to cover the rest.
