Mount’s MacDonald Records 500th Career Strikeout

NEWBURGH – The Mount Saint Mary College softball team advanced to the Skyline Conference Championship Tournament after defeating Mount Saint Vincent.

Mount Saint Mary hosted the University of Mount Saint Vincent for the Skyline Conference Play-in, as the three-seeded Knights took on the sixth-seeded Dolphins. Skyline Pitcher of the Year Grace MacDonald took the mound for the Knights, getting herself out of a jam with runners on second and third with no outs. The Mount would secure two base runners of their own in the bottom half of the inning, but back-to-back strikeouts ended the inning. Samantha Stallone would extend her hit streak to nine games in the bottom of the 3rd with an RBI double down the left field line to score the first run of the game and put Mount Saint Mary up 1-0.

Just like she has done all season long, Grace MacDonald dominated in the circle and recorded her 500th career strikeout in the top of the 4th. MacDonald showed her two-way ability in the bottom half of the inning, hitting a lead-off single to right field. With two outs, Angela Christopher came up clutch with a single to score MacDonald and extend the Knights’ lead to 2-0. Mount Saint Vincent came close to doing some damage in the 6th inning, loading the bases with two outs. Christopher would get herself in a great position in right field to make the catch to get the Knights out of the inning. The Dolphins committed four errors in this game, with the Mount taking advantage in the bottom of the 6th. A single from Grace Terpening was just out of reach of the shortstop, scoring two more runs for the Knights to make it 4-0. MacDonald would finish off Mount Saint Vincent in the top of the 7th to get the complete game shutout, as Mount Saint Mary advances to the Skyline Conference Championship Tournament hosted by Manhattanville University starting this Friday, where the Knights will face off against second-seeded Farmingdale State in a double elimination format.
