Colts Welcome Romeo Aquino to Men’s Basketball Staff

MIDDLETOWN – SUNY Orange Men’s Basketball Head Coach Tom Rickard has announced former Colts standout Romeo Aquino as the newest member of the men’s basketball coaching staff for the 2026-27 season.

A native from Newburgh, NY, Aquino starred at Washingtonville High School, where he earned recognition as one of the Section 9 BCANY All-Star Top 50 players before committing to SUNY Orange.

Following a stellar freshman campaign for the Colts during the 2021-22 season, Aquino earned a spot on the Region XV First Team and was named an NJCAA Division II Second Team All-American.

Aquino elevated his game even further during his second season with the Colts, leading the Colts to an undefeated regular season and a 31-3 overall record, culminating in a trip to the Final Four. Aquino led the Colts in scoring, averaging 23.8 points per game en route to being named the NJCAA Division II National Player of the Year, along with a spot on the NJCAA First Team All-American. Aquino was also named Region XV All-Region First Team, Region XV Most Valuable Player and participated in the NJCAA All-Star Game where he was named as the game’s Most Valuable Player.

After his outstanding career at SUNY Orange, Aquino continued his collegiate career at Bluefield State during the 2023-24 season. He averaged 13.6 points and 4.9 rebounds per game while contributing 32 blocks and 49 steals. He then transferred to Fayetteville State for the 2024-25 season, where he averaged 13.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game, adding 40 blocks and 33 steals.
