NEWBURGH – The City of Newburgh is pleased to announce the launch of the Hometown Heroes Military Banner Program which was approved by City Council through Resolution 159-2026. The Program will recognize and pay tribute to service members who are currently serving or have honorably served in the United States Armed Forces.
Banners honoring local military personnel will be displayed on City‑owned light poles across the City in two‑year increments before being presented to the applicant, honoree, or the honoree’s family. Applications for new banners must be submitted to the office of the City Clerk during one of the two annual application cycles: June 1 through September 30 for fall/winter installations, and December 1 through March 31 for spring/summer installations.
“The Hometown Heroes Program is about more than banners displayed on our streets. It is about expressing our community’s gratitude to the men and women who answered the call to serve our nation,” said Councilman Robert McLymore. “Their courage, sacrifice, and commitment to protecting our freedoms deserve to be recognized, remembered, and celebrated. As a city councilman, I am proud to support a program that ensures our veterans and service members know that their hometown will never forget their service. Honoring our heroes is not just our responsibility; it is our privilege.”

Paper copies of the application are available in the office of the City Clerk at 83 Broadway, Newburgh, NY 12550. Completed applications must be submitted to the same location.
