Colts Score Early But Falls to Westchester

MIDDLETOWN – The SUNY Orange men’s soccer team scored early but three late goals by Westchester proved to be the difference as the Colts lost the home matchup to the Vikings by a score of 4-1 Tuesday afternoon. With the loss the Colts fall to 1-6-0 while Westchester improved to 2-4 on the year.

The Colts struck early when Daviti Bulashvili found the back of the net off an assist from Samuel Rein just two minutes into the game for his second goal of the year to give the Colts a 1-0 lead.

The Vikings answered back with a goal of their own just six minutes later however, tying the game at 1-1.

The second half saw the Colts under consistent pressure, as Westchester racked up 25 shots on goal during the game, but they were able to keep the Vikings out of the net for the first 35 minutes of the second half. The Vikings finally broke through in the 81st minute to take a 2-1 lead, and added two more goals in the final nine minutes to finish the game up 4-1.

Sophomore goalkeeper Dominic Vega posted a new career-high with 21 saves on the day. Vega’s 83 total saves on the season currently leads all NJCAA goalkeepers. The next closest is Gaspard Rampnoux of NJCAA Division I Trinidad State College, with 71.
