Marist Tennis Downed At Lehigh

By Connor Giblin
BETHLEHEM, Pa – Senior Amy Galloway and junior Sophia Chavarria picked up a 6-1 victory in the third flight of doubles play, but Lehigh did not budge any further as Marist sustained a 7-0 loss on Saturday afternoon at Lehigh.

The Red Foxes suffer their second-consecutive loss, putting their dual match record to 2-2. The Mountain Hawks capture their second victory of the spring and second-straight against a MAAC opponent, having beaten Siena the previous day.

DOUBLES

Galloway and Chavarria beat Catherine Meighan and Casey Zhong.

However, Lehigh already secure the doubles point when Junmoke James and Ella Imhof defeated junior captain Sam Galu and senior Jada Tijani 6-2 in the second position, while junior captain Julia Gabay and freshman Vanessa Ciano fell 1-6 to Sibel Can and Paula Gonzalez in the top flight.

SINGLES

In No. 2 singles, sophomore Madison Price fell to Gonzalez 0-6, 2-6.

Ciano dropped the third flight by the same score to James.

After falling 6-2 in the first set, Chavarria made a competitive second set on Imhof, but the latter took it 7-5 and the fourth flight in straight sets.

In the first position, Gabay handled Can 6-4 in the first set, but came up short in the second set 2-6, then lost the third set tiebreak 0-6.

Zheng took care of freshman Nine McAllan 6-2, 6-3 in No. 5 singles.

Galu was unable to overcome Meighan in the sixth flight, falling 3-6, 2-6.

“Lehigh is a very talented team, and we displayed a lot of fight in both doubles and singles. The ladies understand the level of competition is going to be tough this spring, and matches like this will prepare us well for MAAC play in April,” said Director of Tennis Gary Sussman.

Up next, the Red Foxes return to the Empire State to visit Colgate on Saturday, February 8 at 3 p.m.
