Mount Saint Mary Sweeps Wells to Open 2021 Season

KEUKA PARK – Led by seven kills from Jackie Wolf and 15 digs from Renee Hydo, the Mount Saint Mary College Women’s Volleyball team opened the 2021 season in strong fashion with a 25-22, 25-21, 25-7 win against Wells in the first match of the Keuka Invitational on Friday.

The victory improves Mount Saint Mary to 1-0 on the season and gives the Knights a win in the season opener for the second straight season. Wells falls to 0-3 on the year with the loss.

First Set
The Knights put away 10 kills in the opening stanza and forced Wells into 10 attack errors to open a 1-0 lead.

The Mount trailed 10-4 in the early going, but used a 7-1 run to knot the score at 11-11.

A 6-0 run keyed by four Wells miscues opened a 17-13, before Wells closed to 20-19 with a 5-1 stretch.

Hydo recorded a pair of kills in a quick 3-0 spurt, but the Knights closed the frame with five of the final eight points, including two more winners from Hydo.

Second Set
The Knights put away 10 more kills in the middle stanza and used an 8-1 run to start the set to open an early 8-4 advantage.

After Wells moved back in front 15-12, the Knights ripped off five straight points, keyed by three winners from Wolf, to surge back into the lead at 17-15.

Wells answered once more to grab a 19-18 advantage, but the Knights took a commanding 2-0 lead after scoring seven of the final nine points of the set. Fran Cammarata and

Danielle Guarasci keyed the closing stretch with two kills apiece.

Third Set
The Knights dominated the third set, hitting .333 in just 18 attempts with Wells committing seven attack errors against just three winners.

After a 3-0 run from Wells knotted the score at 3-3, the Express managed just four more points the remainder of the frame.

Mount Saint Mary broke the set open with 14 straight points, moving in front 23-5. Grace Riddle scored half the points from the service line, recording seven aces.

For The Knights
Five players record at least three kills in the win, led by Wolf’s seven. Wolf added four aces and nine digs in her first match for the Knights.

Riddle collected six kills for the Mount, adding a match-high seven service aces to go along with 11 digs.

Cammarata added four winners, a match-high 20 assists and nine digs for the Mount.
Hydo finished off a strong match with four kills, an ace, block and a match-high 15 digs.
Alyssa Barbara lifted 14 digs for the Mount and added a trio of assists.

For Wells
Caroline Barr led the offense with six kills, adding two aces and five digs.

Lexi Carfi posted a double-double with 11 assists and 10 digs.

Roosa Armstead-Lehti equaled the match-high with 15 digs.

Match Statistics
Mount Saint Mary finished the match with a 28-19 advantage in kills.

The Knights held a slim 3-2 lead in total team blocks.

Mount Saint Mary controlled the service game with a 14-5 advantage in service aces.
