Mount Soccer Blanks Manhattanville 1-0

NEWBURGH – Mount Saint Mary College women’s soccer shut out Manhattanville to stay undefeated in Skyline play.

Mount Saint Mary College 1,
Manhattanville 0

Mount Saint Mary women’s soccer hosted Alumni Day today and did not disappoint those who returned to watch their alma mater play. The Knights came into today riding a hot streak in conference play and looked to extend their win streak to 4. From the opening kick, the Mount dominated offensively, and defensively, they locked up the Valiants. The Knights’ defense, led by Maria Baldwin, Faith Welsh, Genesis De Leon Portillo, and Isabella Barone, did not allow a single shot on goal all game. Kaitlyn Shotter was given a chance to break the scoreless tie with a penalty kick in the 34th minute, but the Manhattanville keeper made a great save to keep things even. Minutes later, Shotter would redeem herself with a beautifully placed ball from outside the box into the top right corner, assisted by Lily Tanko and Isabella Milburn to go up 1-0.

The Knights picked up right where they left off to end the half, controlling the pace of play and out-hustling their opponent. Mount Saint Mary created plenty of fantastic scoring chances, including a strike from Grace Morra that rang the crossbar. They outshot the Valiants 19-1 and 7-0 on goal, as the Mount played near-perfect all game long. The score did not dictate how well the Knights played, but they still came out on top with a victory 1-0 to improve to 4-0 in conference play.
