POUGHKEEPSIE – The Marist men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams picked up wins over Canisius in their home opener on Saturday afternoon at McCann Natatorium. The Red Foxes posted a 192–102 win on the women’s side and a 154–124 win on the men’s side behind a series of standout swims across multiple events.
On the women’s side, Marist opened the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay, as freshman Elie Kauffman, sophomore Rae Dodson, senior Sabrina Conrad, and freshman Anna Kirby touched first in 1:47.10. Junior April Avila and Dodson once again led the breaststroke group, finishing first and second in the 100-yard event with times of 1:03.36 and 1:04.35, respectively. Dodson later captured the 200 breaststroke in 2:21.32.
Kirby posted a pair of victories in her collegiate home debut, winning the 50 free (24.38) and 100 free (54.17). Conrad claimed the 200 butterfly (2:12.90) and helped the Red Foxes to a strong showing in the relays, while classmate Charlotte Lepis paced the distance group with a first-place finish in the 500 free (5:14.96) and an earlier win in the 1000 free (10:47.24). Freshman Gwen Serafin added another win for Marist in the 100 fly (1:00.04).
In diving, sophomore Gabrielle Norton swept both boards, taking the 1-meter (231.00) and 3-meter (225.68) events. Freshman Shannah Gray added runner-up finishes in both disciplines.
For the men, Marist started strong with a win in the 200 medley relay, as Ben Turley, junior Dylan Magda, junior Lucas Silva, and sophomore Joseph Cash combined for a time of 1:28.02. Senior Oscar Bjering and junior Jack Labianca went one-two in the 200 freestyle with times of 1:43.39 and 1:44.74, and Bjering later returned to win the 500 free in 4:50.20.
Magda swept the breaststroke events, capturing both the 100 (58.82) and 200 (2:06.38). Junior Matthew McManus won the 50 free (21.73) and contributed to Marist’s top 400 free relay (3:11.29), which recorded the fastest time of the event. Freshman Brady King and sophomore Peter Zalewski impressed in the backstroke, finishing one-two in the 200 (1:53.77 and 1:54.22), and freshman Colt Sears took the 1000 free in 10:07.96.
