Army Black Knights Take Down Siena, 67-52

WEST POINT – The Army West Point women’s basketball team kept its perfect start intact on Thursday night, as it defeated Siena 67-52 at Christl Arena to move to 3-0 for the first time since the 2015-16 season.

Army (3-0) used a strong fourth quarter to pull away from Siena (0-3) and remain perfect in the Katie Kuester era. Camryn Tade led the charge for the Black Knights, scoring a career-high 23 points on an impressive 7-11 shooting, while also going 8-8 from the free throw line. Prior to Thursday, Tade’s best scoring performance was 18 points in January of 2025. It’s also the most points scored by a Black Knight this season.

The Black Knights also got a double-double for the second game in a row from Kya Smith, who finished the night with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

After starting the season going 9-19 (47.3 percent) from the free throw line, Army went 22-23 on Thursday for a remarkable 95.7 percent clip. It marks the first time in Army’s Division I history that it shot over 95 percent from the line with a minimum of 20 attempts.

The next best percentage is when Army went 21-23 (91.3 percent) against Albany in 2003.
Army started on fire in the first quarter and led by as much as 14 in the frame. The Black Knights ended the quarter up 23-12 after knocking down 7-16 shots and going 6-7 from the line. Three Black Knights had five points in the opening quarter, while their defense held Siena to 5-11 shooting.

The Saints seemed to find a groove in the second quarter, outscoring the Black Knights 16-14 in the period. Army really struggled shooting the ball, going 5-15 from the field, but ended the half on a positive note as Soleil Montrose nailed a three as time expired to give the Black Knights a 37-28 lead going into the locker room.

At the break, Army was shooting 38.7 percent from the field and did a good job limiting offensive opportunities for Siena. Tade had 13 points in the first 20 minutes, while Reese Ericson was right behind her with eight. Smith had eight of her 10 rebounds in the opening two quarters.

Siena kept its second-quarter momentum coming out of half and cut the Army lead down to four with 4:00 to play before the final quarter. With the Saints in striking distance, the Black Knights started to return to form and outscored their opponent 6-2 in the closing minutes of the quarter to lead 51-43 at the final break.

Army carried that strong play into the fourth and thanks to a quick 7-0 in the opening 2:06 of the period, led Siena by 15 points. The Saints had no answer this time, with the Black Knights jumping to a game-high 18-point lead with 3:58 to go.

Genevive Wedemeyer led the Saints with 13 points, while Francesca Schiro had 12.
