
POUGHKEEPSIE – The Vassar College Men’s Basketball team dominated from start to finish on Saturday afternoon as the Brewers scored a 93-50 victory over Bard at the Athletics and Fitness Center with 12 different players recording at least two points. Vassar’s record improves to 12-4 overall and 8-1 in conference play while the Raptors fall to 1-16 on the season and 0-10 in Liberty League action.
First Half
Following a bucket from Azikwe Cuffy-Scott to put Bard ahead 7-6 at the 17:22 mark, Vassar rattled off a 17-1 run to go ahead 23-8 with 11:39 remaining.
The 17-1 run was led by six points from senior Sacha Greenberg and five points from junior Sebastian Medina.
Seth Dyer’s lay-in put Bard within 29-17 at the 8:38 mark before Vassar expanded the lead to 36-17 on a three from sophomore Will Gregory and buckets from senior Nathan Denham and sophomore Parker Neuenhaus.
Five consecutive points from Greenberg ballooned the advantage to 45-19 with three minutes remaining in the first half.
After makes from Dimitrios Zampoukas and Angelos Bratakos trimmed the lead to 48-25, Vassar closed the half on a 7-0 run with Neuenhaus’ layup giving Vassar a 55-25 halftime lead.
Vassar shot a blistering 60-percent (24-for-40) in the first half and connected on four three-pointers.
Bard finished the opening 20 minutes shooting 52.6-percent (10-for-19) while going 2-for-7 from three-point range.
Second Half
The lead grew to 40 coming out of the halftime break as Vassar scored the first 10 points of the second half to go ahead 65-25 on a Greenberg lay-in.
A three-pointer from junior Kale Elmhorst, a dunk from first year Gyasi Zinn and a layup from Gregory put the Brewers ahead 75-31 with 10:21 to go.
Five straight points from junior Noah Mann helped grow the Vassar lead to 82-35 before Bard got back within 83-44 on a Konstantinos Korfiatis bucket with four minutes left.
First year Jack Moineau scored his first collegiate bucket at the 3:08 mark while two more triples from Elmhorst gave Vassar its final 93-50 lead.
Vassar finished the second half shooting 44.4-percent from the field and went 4-for-13 from three-point distance.
Bard cooled to 29.4-percent overall in the final 20 minutes and went just 1-for-18 from three-point range.
For The Brewers
Denham tallied 13 points, eight rebounds and three steals while Greenberg added 13 points and three boards off the bench.
Neuenhaus garnered 12 points along with Medina recording nine points, six rebounds and three assists.
Junior Kreekor Karageuzian handed out a team-high six assists while Gregory posted nine points, four assists, three rebounds and two assists.
Elmhorst registered a career-high nine points and Zinn posted eight points and seven rebounds.
For The Raptors
Dyer garnered a team-high 10 points while Bratakos added six points and five rebounds.
Lucas Tovar posted six points, three assists and a pair of steals along with Luke Ravitz scoring six points off the bench.
