
POUGHKEEPSIE – The Vassar College Women’s Tennis team opened the 2026 spring season in strong fashion on Saturday with a 5-2 home win over Smith. The Brewers won each of the three doubles matches and the top four singles contests.
Vassar scores a victory in its first head-to-head matchup of the spring, while the Bears fall to 0-2 in the early going of the spring.
Doubles
Vassar dominated the doubles competition, starting with the top pair of Erin McCusker and Iris Li posting a 6-0 victory.
Ananya Krishnan and Maddie Kirby teamed at the second position for an impressive 6-1 triumph.
First Year Gwendolyn Gray and Sara Lippin were victorious at the third position in a 6-3 decision.
Singles
McCusker opened the spring singles competition in strong fashion with a 6-0, 6-3 victory on Saturday at the top flight.
Li, who posted 14 singles victories last spring, eased to a 6-2, 6-1 win at the second position.
Krishnan controlled the third singles matchup, winning by scores of 6-1, 6-3.
Kirby won her first match of the spring with a 7-6, 6-0 victory.
