NEWBURGH – The Mount Saint Mary College women’s basketball team honored senior forward Brianna Guglielmo before the Knights’ victory over Mount Saint Vincent.

Mount Saint Mary College women’s basketball celebrated Senior Day with its lone senior, Brianna Guglielmo. Sara Cashin got the scoring going for the Knights with the short pull-up jumper. Each team traded baskets before a three from Maggie Trinkaus and a jumper from Guglielmo gave the Mount a 9-4 lead. The Knights would eventually go on a 10-1 run before a three from the Dolphins rounded out the quarter.

Angelina Donato would knock down a couple of free throws at the start of the second, but the Mount struggled this quarter, not making a shot until 1:47 left. They shot just 3-19 from the field and 0-9 from three, as Angelina Donato single-handedly scored 7 of the team’s 9 points in the quarter. The Knights were able to head into the half tied, 28-28, in a low-scoring battle with Mount Saint Vincent.

The Dolphins would take the lead to open up the third, though Brianna Guglielmo would respond to a hot start from UMSV with a three-pointer. Guglielmo scored 9 of her team-high 17 points in the quarter, helping the Knights to outscore Mount Saint Vincent 18-13. Reese Mayer would find Sara Cashin on the fastbreak to take back the lead as part of a 9-0 run to put Mount Saint May up 42-37.

The Knights would lead 46-41 with just 10 minutes remaining in this one, with the team needing a strong fourth to come away with the Skyline win and clinch a top-three seed in the postseason tournament. Sara Cashin would score inside, then find Maggie Trinkaus for an open three to put the Knights up 8. Trinkaus made just 3 threes in the first 18 games this season, but has made 6 in the last 5 games, shooting 50.0%. Angelina Donato did a great job facilitating down the stretch, finishing the game with 8 assists and helping the Knights pull away with a 67-53 win.
