
ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON – The Vassar College Baseball team opened the 2026 campaign on Sunday afternoon as the Brewers fell 12-5 and 3-2 in two seven inning matchups to SUNY Plattsburgh at Honey Field on the campus of Bard College.
Game 1 – Plattsburgh State 12 Vassar 5 (7 inn.)
Plattsburgh struck first with a four-run second inning as Ian Warren and Ryan both drew walks and Tyler Martin laid down a bunt single to load the bases with no outs.
Luciano Fiorello and Marc Cancelliere drew bases loaded walks to make it 2-0 followed by a two-RBI single from Michael Piccirillo to put the Cardinals ahead 4-0 after two.
Vassar answered with three runs in the fourth as sophomore Dash Edwards was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning.
Junior Noah Stockman knocked in Edwards with a RBI double and sophomore Kyle Donlon drew a walk to put runners at first and second with no outs.
First year Jack Johnson knocked in both runs with a RBI triple to the right center gap to cut the deficit to one after four innings.
Plattsburgh exploded for six runs in the bottom of the fifth following an Ian Warren double, Hart walk and a Martin HBP to load the bases with one out.
Fiorello dumped a single into center to plate one run and a sacrifice fly from Bostyn Duquette pushed the lead to 6-3.
Martin came across to score on an error followed by Fiorello and Cancelliere scoring on a throwing error to make it 9-3.
Austin Caldwell’s RBI single added the sixth run of the inning for the Cardinals.
Plattsburgh added two more runs in the sixth inning on a RBI triple from Fiorello and a RBI single from Cancelliere.
Vassar put up two runs in the seventh on a two-RBI single from first year Jack Biskupiak that plated senior Jensen Bergman and Stockman.
For The Brewers
Bergman finished with a 2-for-3 day with a run scored and a stolen base while Biskupiak and Johnson each had two RBI and a extra-base hit.
Stockmann recorded a hit, two runs scored and a RBI along with first year Aidan Annello posting a 1-for-3 day.
Junior Grant Maryott suffered the loss as he went the first three innings, allowing three hits, four runs, five walks and struck out six.
For The Cardinals
Fiorello registered a 2-for-3 game with three runs batted in and three runs scored.
Piccarelli drove in three runs along with Cancelliere and Colin Ross knockin in dow runs.
Jack Castillo earned the win on the mound as he tossed 4.2 innings, giving up three hits, three runs, two walks and struck out 10.
Liam Suozzo picked up the save with 2.1 innings thrown, allowing three hits, two runs, a walk and struck out four.
Game 2 – Plattsburgh State 3 Vassar 2 (7 inn.)
Plattsburgh’s starter Isaiah Maines and Vassar’s senior starter Addison Lee both held each team off the scoreboard in the first three innings.
Vassar broke through first in the fourth as first year Kieran McGrath was hit by a pitch and classmate Noah Townsend doubled down the left field line to put runners at second and third.
Bergman then knocked in both runs with opposite field two-RBI single to give the Brewers a 2-0 lead.
The Cardinals took the lead in the fifth inning as Martin cleared the bases with a two-out three-RBI double to go ahead 3-2 for good.
For The Brewers
Townsend and first year Ethan Fox-Fernandez both registered two hits while Townsend added a run scored.
Edwards, Biskupiak and Bergman all posted a hit along with Bergman driving in two runs.
Lee took the no-decision after throwing four innings, allowing three hits, no runs, three walks and struck out five.
Junior Sage Roy-Burman took the loss, allowing a hit, three runs, three walks and struck out one.
Junior Patrick Mill tossed 2.1 scoreless innings of relief and struck out two.
For The Cardinals
Martin drove in all three runs with an extra-base hit along with Duquette, Piccirillo and Logan Provost each adding a hit.
Maines picked up a no-decision after tossing 3.1 innings, giving up five hits, two runs, three walks and striking out three.
John Esposito earned the win in relief as he went three innings, allowing two hits, no runs, one walk and struck out three.
