Mount Baseball Splits With Old Westbury

YAPANK – The Mount Saint Mary College baseball team split its Skyline opening series with Old Westbury.

Mount Saint Mary opened up Skyline Conference play on the road as they took on SUNY Old Westbury. The Knights didn’t get off to the best start, grounding into a double play in the top of the 1st, then allowing a run in the bottom half of the inning. Peter Pappalardo got the ball on the bump for the Mount, taking a few batters to get settled in. Pappalardo walked two batters in the bottom of the 2nd, but got himself out of the jam with his signature pick off at first base.

Kaleb Morgan would tie things up 1-1 in the top of the 4th with a solo homer, his 4th long shot of the season in just 12 games. It wouldn’t be long before the Panthers took the lead right back in the bottom of the inning. A walk followed by a 2-run home run put Old Westbury back up 3-1. The Knights got something going in the top of the 6th with a lead-off single from Noah Anderson, then a walk drawn by Aidan Marshall. Kaleb Morgan advanced both runners over to second and third with just one out. The Mount could not take advantage, as they would fall in game one to the Panthers 3-1 in 7 innings.
