Saugerties Names Outstanding Athlete Awards

SAUGERTIES – Saugerties Central School District recognized two exceptional student-athletes during its Varsity Sports Awards Ceremony on June 11, naming Landon MacDougall Outstanding Male Athlete and Viola Myers Outstanding Female Athlete.

A three-sport athlete, Myers made her mark in volleyball, basketball, and lacrosse. She served as a captain and midfielder for the Varsity Lacrosse team, recording multiple multi-goal games. Her efforts earned her recognition as a midfielder on the Section 9 Girls Lacrosse Coaches All-Star Team.

On the volleyball court, Myers was a versatile middle hitter and team captain who helped lead the Sawyers to deep Section 9 tournament runs. She received Class A Honorable Mention from the Section 9 Volleyball Coaches. During basketball season, Myers was a key captain and center for the Sawyers, regularly posting double-digit scoring performances.

MacDougall capped off an outstanding career as a two-sport athlete in football and lacrosse. The senior and team captain became Section 9’s all-time leader in boys lacrosse scoring, surpassing 276 career points. He recently announced his commitment to continue his academic and athletic career playing Division II lacrosse at Roberts Wesleyan University.
In the fall, MacDougall was an integral member of the Sawyers football team and earned first-team all-star honors as an Offensive Player of the Game during Saugerties’ Class B sectional championship run.

These honors reflect the hard work, perseverance, and passion both athletes have demonstrated throughout their high school careers.
