#10 Vassar College, #RV NYU End In Scoreless Draw

POUGHKEEPSIE – The #10 Vassar College Women’s Soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to five games to start the season with a scoreless draw Saturday afternoon against #RV New York University in its home opener. Junior Laura Shea finished with her third shutout of the season.

Vassar moves to 3-0-2 overall to start the season, while the Violets stand at 2-1-2 through their first five games of the campaign.

Vassar finished the first half with a 9-4 advantage in shots against the Violets.

Junior Alice Crowley put three shots on target for the Brewers over the first 25 minutes of the opening stanza.

NYU goalkeeper Maddy Tohanczyn turned aside four shots prior to halftime to keep Vassar off the board.

Shea held the Violets scoreless with a pair of first half stops for the Brewers.

The Brewers took five of the six first half corner kicks.

Vassar unleashed seven more shots in the second half and finished the final 45 minutes with a slim 7-6 advantage in shots.

Shea made back-to-back stops with just over 13 minutes left to play in the contest to keep the game scoreless.

Tohanczyn’s lone stop after halftime came on a Gianna Panarelli attempt in the 52nd minute.

NYU held a 2-1 advantage in second half corner kicks on Saturday.

Shea rounded out the second frame with a trio of saves for Vassar.

For The Brewers
Shea posted her third shutout of the season and matched her season-high with five saves on Saturday.

Shea moved her save percentage on the season to .938 and goals against average to 0.21.

Panarelli led Vassar with five shots in the game.

Crowley posted three shots with all three attempts landing on target.

First Year Ava Cipolla registered three shots and put two shots on goal.

For The Violets
Tohanczyn earned the shutout in goal for NYU with five saves against the Brewers.

Sydney Freese led the team with three shots in the game.

Julia Spang got off to shots for the Violets.
