Marist Pulls Away for Victory at Stetson

DeLAND, Fl. – The Marist University football team earned a 28-14 win at Stetson in a Pioneer Football League on Saturday.
Stetson opened the scoring in the second quarter on a 10-yard touchdown pass from Thomas von Grote to Shawne Jones.

Marist tied the game on its ensuing drive with a 30-yard touchdown pass from Sonny Mannino to Lance Martinez.

On their next drive, the Red Foxes took the lead with 9:31 left in the second quarter on Isaiah Simmons’ 44-yard touchdown run. Marist maintained its 14-7 lead heading into halftime.

Stetson tied the game on its opening drive of the third quarter as von Grote and Jones connected on an 11-yard touchdown.

One play after Mannino converted a fourth-and-one with a run, he connected on a 29-yard touchdown with Reece Beauchamp. This gave Marist a 21-14 advantage with 6:27 left in the third quarter.

With 56 seconds left in the third quarter, Simmons scored a two-yard rushing touchdown as Marist took a 28-14 lead. This closed out the scoring.

Marist improved to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the PFL.

Marist will return home for a non-league game against Columbia on Friday, Oct. 9.
