RCC Black Achievement Awards Ceremony is Held

MIDDLETOWN - Head Start students answered Representative Sean Patrick Maloney’s call to recognize veterans just in time for Valentine’s Day. Last week students crafted 100 cards to honor veterans for their service as part of Maloney’s annual “Valentines for Our Veterans” project. The preschool-age children used handprints, doilies, glitter, and yarn to decorate their messages. Maloney is the son of a Navy Veteran and for the past three years has announced the project which appeals to schools, organizations, individuals and families in the Hudson Valley.

Sunday afternoon a host of local Zumba instructors, along with close to 200 participants, gathered to take place in the annual “Zumba Go Red For Women” event, aimed at raising awareness for the number one killer of women, heart disease.

Black History at West Point Recognized

Around 20 artists were on hand at Saturday's Opening for the current show, African-American History Month's Group exhibit, at the Howland Cultural Center. The well-attended Opening also included local musicians as well as a local poet entertaining the crowd who had the opportunity to interact with the artists while viewing their unique creations. Their colorful, multi media and powerful works of all these artists can be viewed throughout the month
