A Hoodie & Dark Sunglasses

Dear Editor,

The motivating factor that led to the execution of my grandson Antonio Bryant was based on the fact that he was wearing a hoodie and dark sunglasses! It was stated that because of his having that attire on he looked suspicious therefore when Antonio got into the car and the young lady started driving the police felt that it was necessary to follow the car because Antonio looked suspicious because he was wearing a hoodie and dark sunglasses! Wow! This should cause every parent to be on edge because the majority of our youth dress like that. This is what set the whole incident in motion. Everything that transpired after that would not have happened if Antonio had not been wearing a hoodie and dark sunglasses!
Something is seriously wrong with this story. The continued silence coming forth from the leadership of our community re: this incident is a sad indictment on that leadership. Wake up, wake up, wake up!
Next week this leadership and the nation will be celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s birthday therefore let me remind you of the words that Dr. King had to say about leadership:“The urgency of the hour calls for leaders of wise judgement and sound integrity -leaders not in love with money but in love with justice; leaders not in love with publicity, but in love with humanity; leaders who can subject their particular egos to the greatness of the cause.”
“The honors and privileges…that often come as a result of leadership constitute only one side of the picture. The greater the privilege , the greater the responsibilities and sacrifices.”
“The New Testament admonishes us that the people cannot hear if the trumpet makes an uncertain sound. What is their hope if the trumpet makes no sound at all?”
What else can be said after this? Nothing, because Dr. King has said it all.
