Vassar Brewers Beat New Paltz Hawks, 8-1

POUGHKEEPSIE — The Vassar College women’s tennis team topped New Paltz, 8-1, at Walker Field House on Saturday.

With the win, the Brewers improve to 5-2, while the Hawks fall to 6-4.

Vassar cruised through doubles, as New Paltz tallied just one point in the three matches. Connie Yoo and Dasha Ivenitsky teamed up to put the Brewers on the board with an 8-0 shutout over Emi Lewis and Lindsay Haley at No. 3 doubles. Kelsey Van Noy and Lauren Stauffer kept the momentum going with an 8-2 win over Olivia Ammirati and Laura Tierney at No. 2, and Shayna Becker and Hanna McGuire secured the doubles sweep with an 8-0 shutout over Brittany Grandville and Carol Tyson at No. 1.

Moving onto singles, Van Noy defeated Grandville, 6-4, 6-0, at the two spot before Becker beat Tierney, 6-2, 6-1, at the four. At No. 1 singles, Courtney Geiss clinched the team win when she conquered Ammirati, 6-0, 6-3, before McGuire topped Lewis, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 5 singles.

Ivenitsky defeated Lindsay Haley, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 6 singles before Tyson topped Morgan Fitzgerald by retirement, 6-4, 4-3.

Up next, the Vassar women’s tennis team flies to California, where they will play five matches. First match is against California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, CA on Sunday, March 13 at 12 p.m.
