Vassar Brewers Split Singles In 6-3 Road Loss

BRONX — The Vassar College men’s tennis team battled the whole way, but ultimately fell 6-3 on the road to New York University on Sunday.

With the loss, the Brewers drop to 4-5, while the Violets improve to 1-2.

Although the Brewers fell behind 3-0 in doubles, they showed a lot of heart to split singles, 3-3.

At No. 1 singles, Nick Litsky took down a tough competitor in Benedict Teoh, 6-3, 6-2.  Litsky now leads the Brewers with 10 singles wins, having won his past two matches.

In perhaps the most exciting match of the day, Daniel Cooper fought Sidd Thangirala to a super tiebreaker after falling behind in the first, 6-2. Cooper rallied to even the match at one with a 6-3 win and then put Thangirala away with a 6-2 victory in the super tiebreaker. With that, Cooper improves to 9-2 in singles play this season, having won his past six matches.

Juan Felipe Laso also picked up a victory for the Brewers, beating Jiri Honajzer, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 singles. With the win, Laso notched his eighth singles victory of the season, having won his past two matches.
The Vassar men’s tennis team flies to California for five matches. First match is against Whittier College in Whittier on Sunday, March 13 at 10 a.m.
