MVP Health Care Holds Mother’s Day Celebration

NEWBURGH – Mother’s Day is celebrated on the second Sunday in May. However, it came a day early for those mother’s attending the MVP Health Care mother’s day celebration at Cornerstone Family Healthcare last Saturday.

The Ken Macintosh Room was filled with moms and their children. With over a dozen vendors and service providers there was plenty for the mother’s to enjoy. Organizations like Planned Parenthood, MISN, and the Alzheimer’s Association handed out literature and discussed their services to the attendees.

Mary Kay Independent Sr. Sales Director Esther Sue Murray offered complimentary makeovers while Carolyn Merchant of Dolson Avenue Medical provided free massages. All enjoyed the free food, give-aways and raffle prizes.

On Mother’s Day, we celebrate those who are the first to welcome us into the world. Performing the most important work there is, mothers – biological, foster, or adoptive – are our first role models and earliest motivators. They balance enormous responsibilities and shape who we become as adults, their lessons guiding us throughout life.

This was the second year Rosina Tezgeldi of MVP Health Care organized the event. “We wanted to honor all of you, mother’s, and celebrate you today,” she said. But it wasn’t all flowers, greeting cards and the like. Tezgeldi provided important information to mother’s regarding health, nutrition, diet, exercise and the importance of taking care of themselves. She even gave a demonstration on meditation.
Cornerstone Family Healthcare VP of Nursing Thomas Frederick demonstrated proper CPR for both children and adults. Concerned moms were quick to step forward to try the newly learned techniques on mannequins. “This could save your child,” one woman said.

Children had a fun time as well with many kid friendly activities. “Me and mom always spend Mother’s Day together,” said 11-year-old Savannah. She and her younger sister McKayla, eight, were making a bouquet of flowers from paper to give to their mother with the assistance of Erica McGuire. The duo was unsure as to what else they may do for their mother. But this was a nice start, Savannah said.
The day concluded with a mariachi band. The group consisted of one violin, two trumpets and two guitars. There was also a bass guitar, called a guitarrón, which provided the rhythm. As the band serenaded the mother’s with beautiful music, it was clear that many were surprised and all thoroughly enjoyed being celebrated.
