Skoufis Announces Re-Election Campaign

“We’ve accomplished a great deal over the last four years,” said Assemblyman James Skoufis (D-Woodbury), who announced he will seek re-election to the 99th state Assembly District. “Still, there’s more work to be done creating jobs, controlling taxes, protecting our Hudson Valley quality of life and cracking down on public corruption. I’m up to the task and ready to attack this agenda as aggressively as ever.”

Skoufis has extensive legislative experience and a strong record of results, including passage of legislation he authored to ensure greater oversight and scrutiny of annexation attempts by Kiryas Joel, the creation of a new paid family leave law, tax cuts for middle class families, stronger ethics laws, and job creation in the Hudson Valley.

“Serving the residents of the Hudson Valley in the State Assembly is an honor that I take to heart,” Skoufis said. “I’ve always worked hard for the families I represent because this is my community – and these are my neighbors.”

Skoufis noted that his signature achievements include fighting aggressively to enact a law requiring local input into annexation efforts like those of Kiryas Joel, making banks responsible for the upkeep of vacant, foreclosed ‘zombie’ properties, securing funding for important infrastructure projects such as repairing the Palisades Parkway and Route 207, and holding insurance companies accountable for quick response in the face of natural disasters like Hurricanes Irene and Lee.

“In the Assembly, I’ve worked hard every single day to make real progress on the issues that matter most to Hudson Valley families,” Skoufis said. “And now that I am engaged to be married and plan to raise my family right here, ensuring we have top notch schools and helping to control property taxes is taking on a whole new significance.”

The 99th Assembly District includes Blooming Grove, Cornwall, Chester, Goshen, Hamptonburgh Highlands, Monroe, New Windsor, Waywayanda and Woodbury in Orange County and the Town of Stony Point in Rockland.
