The OCDW Screens Movie on Gun Violence

HIGHLAND MILLS –  Orange County Democratic Women announced its plan to show the documentary “Making a Killing: Guns, Greed and the NRA”.  The premier screening of the film will be Monday July 18, 2016, 7 pm in the Newburgh Free Library’s auditorium.  The event is free to the public.

Despite news  filled with stories about children being killed at home by an unattended gun;  people shot down in random gun violence in their homes or in their neighborhoods; mass killing of children at school; or people in nightclubs and movie theaters, Congress has failed  in its duty to protect American citizens with sensible gun laws.

Orange County Democratic Women says it’s more vital than ever to educate the public about the real dangers of guns.  Through this film Orange County Democratic Women plans to draw attention to the need for citizens to demand a country where public safety is more valued than profit.

The film was released in March by Brave New Films.  “Making a Killing: Guns, Greed, and The NRA” tells the stories of how guns, and the billions of dollars made off of them, affect the lives of everyday Americans. It features personal stories from people across the country who were affected by gun violence, including survivors and victims’ families. The film exposes how the powerful gun companies and the NRA resist responsible legislation for the sake of profit – and thereby putting people in danger.

“Whether it is an unintentional shooting, domestic violence, suicide or mass shooting, Orange County Democratic Women wants to spark a debate about how to curb the violence and find ways to achieve common sense gun laws,” said Willa Freiband, OCDW Board Member.
