Completion of Route 207 Repairs is Announced

GOSHEN – Assemblyman James Skoufis (D-Woodbury), alongside local officials and DOT representatives, announced the completion of much-needed repairs to State Route 207 in Goshen.
“The deplorable condition of 207 was both dangerous for residents and harmful to local small businesses,” said Skoufis. “The repairs are already having a positive impact by improving public safety and providing support for Goshen’s economy.”

Since Route 207 is a state road, it cannot legally be maintained by Goshen’s local government; it hadn’t been repaved since 1999. Assemblyman Skoufis worked closely with Goshen Mayor Kyle Roddey, Department of Transportation (DOT) staff, and all local stakeholders to secure $3 million in last year’s budget for the pitted and potholed road, with a majority of the work occurring between the Route 17 interchange and Sarah Wells Trail in the Village of Goshen. Additionally, drainage along the road was improved, crosswalks were enhanced, and ADA-compliant pedestrian curbs were established.
The Route 207 project was not in the Hudson Valley DOT’s five-year capital plan meaning that without the dedicated funding Skoufis secured, Goshen would have needed to wait at least six more years before repairs were undertaken.

“207 is a main thoroughfare for Goshen residents, and I’m thankful to Assemblyman Skoufis for making sure it – and our community – got the attention we deserved,” said Village of Goshen Mayor Kyle Roddey.

“It’s a relief to finally have a safe and smooth route to so many vibrant local businesses,” said Terry Smallin, Executive Director of the Goshen Chamber of Commerce. “We look forward to continuing our work with Assemblyman Skoufis to improve Goshen’s economy.”

“The recent repairs made to 207 reflect Assemblyman Skoufis’ long-standing commitment to our region’s economy and the small businesses that keep it running,” said Lynn Cione, President of the Orange County Chamber of Commerce. “We are so pleased to have such a strong partner in the State Assembly.”
