“AARP New York thanks Senator Charles Schumer for cosponsoring the Credit for Caring Act of 2016 and commends him on his commitment to today’s 40 million family caregivers.
“If passed, the Credit for Caring Act (S.2759) would provide a federal tax credit of up to $3,000 for eligible family caregivers who provide financial assistance to their loved ones while working. In New York State alone, about 2.6 million family caregivers annually provide approximately $31.3 billion in unpaid care for their parents, spouses, children with disabilities, and other loved ones.
“We are encouraged by the bipartisan support the Credit for Caring Act has received in Congress, and AARP will be urging all Senators to join Senator Schumer in co-sponsoring this bill.
“Earlier this year, Representative Tom Reed (NY-23) sponsored the Credit for Caring Act (H.R. 4708) in the U.S. House of Representatives and Representatives Chris Gibson (NY-19) and Dan Donovan (NY-11) co-sponsored it.
“Sooner or later, we all may become or need a family caregiver. The Credit for Caring Act would help with the financial challenges for family caregivers when that time comes.”
