Knights Split Two Matches at Scranton Invitational

SCRANTON, PA – The Mount Saint Mary College Women’s Volleyball team closed play at the Scranton Invitational on Saturday with a 25-17, 25-23, 15-25, 10-25, 15-13 win over FDU-Florham and a 13-25, 9-25, 17-25 straight set loss to Wentworth. Senior Rachel Sabatini led the Knights in the win with 11 kills.

Sabatini posted a team-high in kills for the Knights against the Devils, rounding out a double-double effort with 11 digs. She added an ace and a pair of block assists to the winning effort.
Megan Williams added 10 winners for the Knights, picking up three total blocks in the victory. Angelia Cirigliano and Nicole Spinelli each totaled eight kills for the Mount, with Cirigliano adding 12 digs.

Senior Kristen Maddock came up just one assist shy of matching her career-high, handing out 38 helpers and chipping in with five digs and a team-high three service aces. Morgan Burke finished with three total blocks and Julimar Figueroa lifted 19 digs.

FDU-Florham was led by 13 kills from Lauren Harris and got 11 winners and 17 digs from Melissa Gaffney. Rachel Catena led all players with 31 digs in the match.
In the second match of the day, the Mount was held to a -.037 attack percentage, recording 14 kills and committing 17 attack errors. Sabatini led the team for the second straight contest with five kills, with Williams and Madelyn Barberan each contributing two winners for the Knights.

Maddock handed out 11 of the team’s 13 assists in the match and led the team with eight digs. Williams and Spinelli led the blocking attack for Mount Saint Mary with a pair of assists each.

Wentworth hit .213 as a team in the match and used a 17-3 advantage in service aces to secure the victory. Seven different players finished with at least one ace, with Katelyn Carlson leading the way with five. Leah Rogoz finished with nine kills and four aces, while Lillie Clark led all players with 17 digs.

With the split on Saturday, Mount Saint Mary stands at 1-3 overall on the season. The Knights will return to action on Wednesday when they take on FDU-Florham for the second time in a week.
