Mount Drops One Goal Decision at Nazareth

ROCHESTER – The Mount Saint Mary College Women’s Soccer team closed out play in the Rachel Miller Tournament on Saturday afternoon with a second hard fought 1-0 loss. Junior goalkeeper Mary Riley made six saves, while classmate Destiny Ribadeneyra led the team with three shots.

The only goal of the game came in the seventh minute when Nazareth’s Laura Herman potted her first goal of the season off a pass from Erin Strollo. The goal came on the Golden Flyers’ fourth shot of the game at the 6:30 mark of the contest.

Nazareth finished the first half with a 10-3 advantage in shots and took all five corner kicks in the opening period. Riley made four stops before the break for the Knights.
The Knights doubled their number of the shots in the second half, getting off six and forcing Nazareth keeper Allison Dobles to make three stops after the intermission. The Knights took three shots in the first five minutes of the frame, but couldn’t solve Dobles before the final horn.

Ribadeneyra led five different players with at least one shot, with Stephanie Surrusco and Bridget McKeever each recording a pair of attempts. Riley made two more saves in the second half to reach six for the game, with Dobles making six stops for the Golden Flyers.

Overall, Mount Saint Mary was outshot 17-9 overall and 7-6 in shots on goal. The Golden Flyers held an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks, while fouls in the game were even at 10 apiece.
