Chevron Donates to Six Community Organizations

FISHKILL – Chevron continues its ongoing support of the local community by presenting sixorganizations with donation checks immediately preceding the Citizens Advisory Panel (CAP) meeting at the Slater Chemical Firehouse in Glenham, NY this summer. Chevron (and formerly Texaco) has been a member of the community since 1931 and is currently remediating the property at the former Texaco Beacon Research Center in Glenham.

Chevron’s Public Affairs Advisor Madonna Smith presented James Pavelock, Commissioner of Glenham Fire District, with a check for $5,000.The Fire District is the primary and first responder to the former Texaco Beacon Research facility and has purchased a new fire engine within the last year. This contribution will support the purchase of an emergency medical/first aid kit that will be secured to the new truck, enhancing the services the fire district provides to the community.

A donation check was also presented to Ann Marie Quartironi of the Beacon City School District for $2,500. The donation would support the school district’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) program.  The STEM program was supported by Chevron last year and prepares students to be technologically and engineering literate by Grade 12. With the additional funding, the school plans to train another teacher, allowing the program to be offered to two grade levels in the coming year.

“The former Texaco Research Center in Beacon has consistently supported local community organizations,” said Mark Hendrickson, Chevron Environmental Management Company.  “We understand how important it is to be a good neighbor and feel that our contributions help these important organizations continue to make a difference in the communities they serve.”
Madonna Smith and Mark Hendrickson of Chevron presented a check for $2,500 to Liz Spira of Community Action of Dutchess County, a multifunction not-for-profit serving all of Duchess County.  This year’s donation will be split between the Food Pantry of Beacon which provides basic food support for those living in the area with incomes under the poverty level, and Dress for Success,an organization that provides clothing to women as they re-enter the workforce after abusive situations, divorce or death of a spouse. Both programs target the Beacon/Fishkill area.

Madonna Smith and Mark Hendrickson of Chevron also presented a check for $1,000 to Jessie McKeel of Blodgett Memorial Library. Blodgett is a public library in the Village of Fishkill which serves as the site for Chevron’s public repository as it relates to the environmental cleanup.

Although not in attendance at the presentation, Chevron made a $1,500 donation to the Village of Fishkill for their annual Block Party Festival and a $2,000 donation to Beacon Education and Arts Foundation which provides funding for fine arts including music for the Beacon City Schools. The popular Block Party Festival is held every summer and offers family friendly activities for kids and parents to enjoy together and includes food and an educational display.  The Education and Arts Foundation purchases art supplies, instruments and supports performances by student which the schools budget will not allow for. While Chevron is not entirely responsible for funding the fine arts program, the Board of Education President has stated “without the support of the Foundation, Beacon city Schools would not have fine arts curriculum”.

Chevron has a long-standing history of providing financial support for many local initiatives and organizations, always looking for ways to assist communities where it does business.
