Hawks Place Sixth at Bill Fritz Invitational

GLASSBORO, NJ – The State University of New York at New Paltz men’s cross country team placed sixth out of 17 teams with a total of 153 points at the Bill Fritz Invitational hosted by Rowan University on Saturday.

The host Profs took top team honors with 25 points while Salisbury University finished runner-up with 51 points. Vassar College earned third-place recognition with 64 points. Rowan’s Zachary Helm won the individual title, covering the eight-kilometer course in a time of 25:02.4.

Senior Galo Vasquez was the Hawks’ top finisher, clocking in at 25:57.98 for a 12th-place finish. Senior Josh Korn earned 30th overall with a time of 26:35.74 while senior Ian Detweiler [23:53.43] and sophomore Jack Wilson [27:04.52] finished 47th and 72nd, respectively.

Junior Barrett Celecki [73rd, 28:00.98] and freshman Carlos Ramos [76th, 28:10.44] were the sixth and seventh New Paltz runners to cross the line, respectively, while senior Joe Richards [90th, 28:55.18], sophomore Alex Court [97th, 29:18.41], senior Nick Aprigliano [118th, 30:37.82] and sophomore Aidan Klein [128th, 31:24.66] rounded out the New Paltz field.

The Hawks return to action on Saturday, Oct. 1 when they race in the Saratoga Invitational. Start time is set for 11 a.m.
