New Paltz Hawks Compete in ITA Regional Championships

GENEVA – Four members of the women’s tennis team at the State University of New York at New Paltz competed in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regional Championships this weekend, hosted by Hobart & William Smith Colleges.

Senior Olivia Ammirati, junior Brittany Grandville, junior Carol Tyson and junior Emi Lewis all took part in the tournament for the Hawks.

In the first round of singles play, Ammirati fell to her opponent from St. Lawrence 1-6, 7-5, 5-8, Grandville fell to her foe from Hamilton 4-6, 2-6 and Tyson dropped a 4-6, 3-6 decision to her William Smith opponent.

Ammirati picked up a consolation win against Scranton 8-2 and Grandville won by walkover against SUNY Geneseo. Tyson dropped a 6-8 decision to her Scranton foe.

In doubles play, Ammirati and Lewis earned an 8-5 victory in the first round against Scranton. Tyson and Grandville fell to St. Lawrence 4-8 and by walkover to Vassar in the consolation round.

Ammirati and Lewis later fell in tightly fought match to The College of New Jersey, 9-8.
