Knights Suffer Skyline Setback to Sage

NEWBURGH – The Mount Saint Mary College Women’s Tennis team returned to action on Friday night, suffering a 6-3 Skyline Conference loss to visiting Sage. Freshman Michelle Carnovale remained unbeaten on the season in singles play and sophomore Mikayla Zaccaria posted the Mount’s other singles triumph.

Canovale moved to a perfect 12-0 on the season at first singles on Friday, including a 5-0 mark against conference opponents. She posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory over the Gators and is one of just three players for the Knights with a winning singles mark on the season.

Zaccaria is one of the other three players above .500 in singles action for the Knights as she moved to 7-4 on the season, scoring her second win of the season at fifth singles. She posted a 6-4, 6-0 win for the Knights on Friday.

The Mount’s other victory of the night came at the first singles position, with the pair of Carnovale and Alissa Gileau continuing their solid season. The duo moved to 8-4 on the season after posting an 8-3 victory over the top pair from Sage.

Friday’s loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 4-8 overall on the season and to 2-3 against conference opponents.
