NEW PALTZ – Senior forward Skye Kaler netted a goal just 44 seconds into Saturday’s match against SUNY Plattsburgh but the State University of New York at New Paltz women’s soccer team gave up five unanswered goals to the Cardinals and fell 5-1 at South Turf Field.

The Hawks fall to 1-12-2, 0-6-0 SUNYAC and will travel to SUNY Oneonta on Saturday, Oct. 15 for a 1 p.m. match. The Cardinals improve to 9-5-0, 4-1-0 SUNYAC.

Kaler took a feed from junior Gabriela Cabello from the 18 and booted a trickling shot past the Plattsburgh keeper to give New Paltz an early 1-0 lead in the league contest.
The game remained in favor of New Paltz until the 35th minute when the Cardinals scored the equalizer. Plattsburgh went ahead in the 38th minute, 2-1, which remained the score until halftime.

The Cardinals went ahead to tack on three more scores in the second half to hand the Hawks the conference defeat. New Paltz managed to fire off seven shots, six being on goal, as seven different players recorded a shot.

Freshman keeper Angela Ratka suffered the defeat despite making 11 saves on the day, her fourth double-digit save performance of the season.

Prior to the contest, the Hawks honored their five senior members in a pre-game ceremony.
