Tops Sarah Lawrence, Records 41st Straight Conference Victory

NEWBURGH – The Mount Saint Mary College Women’s Swimming team continued its dominance of the Skyline Conference on Saturday with a 115-88 home win over Sarah Lawrence. Saturday’s win over the Gryphons was the Mount’s fourth straight overall in 2016 and marked the 41st win over a conference opponent dating back to the 2009-10 season.
Mount Saint Mary picked up four individual wins on Saturday, starting with a dominating performance in the 1,650-yard freestyle from Jessica Daigl. She swan past the field in a time of 19:34.96 and beat the runner-up by nearly 20 seconds. Daigle went on to place second for the Knights in the 500-yard freestyle race in a time of 5:52.50.

Sophomore Harley Illingworth also turned in a strong effort on Saturday, posting a win in the 400-yard individual medley and a runner-up finish in the 100-yard freestyle. Her win came in a time of 5:03.89 and missed the school record in the event by just over a second.
Senior Regina Zeoli picked up a victory for the Mount in the 200-yard butterfly and added a third place finish in the 200-yard freestyle. Her triumph came in 2:35.91, while she showed a freestyle time of 2:12.90.

Sophomore Kyra McNamee scored a victory for the Knights in the 500-yard freestyle, swimming past the field in a time of 5:38.01. She also picked up a second place finish for Mount Saint Mary in the 200-yard race, touching out in a time of 2:07.70.

The Knights received strong efforts on Saturday from Allison Sciucco who placed second in the 50-yard freestyle and third in the 100-yard freestyle, Rachael Stone who earned runner-up points in both the 1,650-yard freestyle and 200-yard backstroke, Marissa Catania who collected second place points in the 200-yard breaststroke and Samantha McGregor who finished second in the 200-yard butterfly.

In addition to their individual success, the Knights scored wins in both relay events contested on Saturday. The team of Illingworth, Catania, Zeoli and McNamee won the 400-yard medley race in 4:17.32, while the quartet of Sciucco, Stone, Daigle and Lauren Schroeder took first in the 400-yard freestyle race in 4:08.42.

Saturday’s win improves Mount Saint Mary to 6-3 overall and to 5-0 in conference action. The Knights will be back in the pool on November 19 when they open action in the two-day Diamond City Invitational in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
