New Paltz Hawks Overpower Brockport 66-45

BROCKPORT – Senior forward Courtney Irby recorded a double-double 19 points and 10 boards to help lead the State University of New York at New Paltz women’s basketball team to a 66-45 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) victory over host The College at Brockport on Saturday afternoon.

The Hawks improve to 4-3, 1-1 SUNYAC and will return home to face SUNY Cortland on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 7:30 p.m. Brockport drops to 0-6, 0-2 SUNYAC and looks for its first win against William Smith College on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 6 p.m.

New Paltz pushed an early 8-0 run in the first period, stifling the Golden Eagles to only two points at the 6:18 mark before extending its lead to 16-2 heading into the second quarter.
The Hawks continued their hot streak in the second stanza as they stretched the deficit to 28-8 but Brockport rallied on a 10-0 spurt to close the gap to 28-18 at intermission.

Brockport managed to rope the score within nine (42-33) at the close of the third quarter but could not get out of the deficit in the final period as the Hawks sailed to their first conference victory.

Irby notched 11 of the Hawks’ 16 first quarter points and concluded the day shooting 8-of-14 from the field and converting a pair of 3-pointers. Senior guard/forward Kit Small chipped in 12 points and amassed five assists and four steals while senior guard/forward Morgan Roessler also recorded 12 points for New Paltz.

For Brockport, junior forward Lindsay Johnson notched 20 points and pulled down 14 boards while freshman guard Olivia LeBaron notched seven points off the bench.
