NEWBURGH – In the spirit of March being Women’s History Month, Washington’s Headquarters State Historic Site in the city of Newburgh presented the 2017 Martha Washington Woman of History Award to Mary Ellen Matise, a historian, researcher and educator within Orange County.
This award is given each year to a woman who has made a significant contribution to preserving the history of the Hudson Valley.
Among about the 75 guests at the event was Orange County Legislator Mike Anagnostakis who thanked Ms. Matise for her “education of our children in the history of our county.”
Anagnostakis concluded by saying, “You are indeed a jewel of Orange County!”
Washington’s Headquarters State Historic Site is a registered national historic landmark located at the corner of Liberty and Washington Streets in the city of Newburgh.
