Marist Red Foxes Tennis Falls in MAAC Semis

WEST WINDSOR, NJ – The Marist women’s tennis team fell in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference semifinal action, 4-2, to the Siena Saints Saturday afternoon. With the loss the Red Foxes end the season 8-8 overall and 5-2 in conference play.

The Red Foxes looked to be in command of the match early as they took the doubles point with wins at the second and third position after falling 6-0 in the first slot.

Chloe Lant and Amy Galloway teamed up to defeat Siena’s Boeberic and Weaver, 7-5, and Callie Morlock and Claire Schmitz won at the third position, 6-4, over Leyva and Sakai.

The Saints flipped the script in singles play however taking wins at the first, fourth, fifth, and sixth spots to clinch to overall match victory.

Siena’s Garrity defeated Lant, 6-3, 6-2 and then Sakia took down Morlock, 6-1, 7-5 to give the Saints a 2-1 match lead. Schmitz evened the score at 2-2 with a win at number three singles, 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) but Siena won at the six spot and the fourth position to take the match.

This was the final match for senior Callie Morlock as the Red Foxes will return the rest of their lineup for the 2017-18 season.
