Maybrook Police Chief Arnold “Butch” Amthor Shot

Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus released the following statement in the wake of the shooting of Village of Maybrook Police Chief Arnold “Butch” Amthor on Tuesday morning.

Amthor was shot in the shoulder and taken to St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh where he is expected to make a full recovery. Amthor serves as Police Chief for the Village of Maybrook and Town of Montgomery.

“I worked with Chief Amthor 20 years ago in the City of Newburgh and we remain close friends,” Neuhaus said. “Butch is a true gentleman who has dedicated his life to law enforcement. I ask Orange County residents to keep Chief Amthor and his family in their prayers. Fortunately, he is expected to make a full recovery. However, this incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of police work and how deserving of our support and encouragement law enforcement is. I visited with Butch at the hospital and I commend the St. Luke’s Hospital staff for their professionalism and care that they have provided Chief Amthor.”
