25th Annual Tribute to Women Honors Six

NEW WINDSOR – In celebration of Tribute to Orange County Women of Achievement’s 25th anniversary year, Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson and YWCA Orange County hosted its annual event that paid tribute to six honorees.

The event, jointly hosted by Girl Scouts and YWCA Orange County for a quarter of a century, the Tribute to Women of Achievement honors women of Orange County who have made a difference to the community through their professional, personal, or school-based activities.

“Each year, the Tribute to Women of Achievement event introduces us to remarkable women from all walks of life from throughout Orange County who embody Girl Scouts and YWCA’s missions to empower women and girls and serve as role models and mentors to them,” said Pamela Andersen, President & CEO, Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson.

The 2017 Orange County Women of Achievement are:  Kanisha E. Henderson (DJ – Ms. Perfect Touch/Ayo Nish! – Newburgh); Heather Howley (CEO/Chief Pilot – Independent Helicopters, LLC – Newburgh); Master Sgt. MaryKay Messenger (Vocalist West Point Military Academy Band – Milton); Darcie M. Miller (Commissioner Orange County Departments of Social Services and Mental Health – Goshen); Andrea Nilon (Town of Hamptonburgh Assessor, Long-time Girl Scouts and YWCA volunteer – Pine Bush); and Woman of the Future: Elizabeth Klosky (Cornwall High School Senior and Founder of NY is a Great Place to Bee! – Cornwall on Hudson).

“We are fortunate to have truly outstanding women of achievement who live, work, and volunteer in our community and consistently go above and beyond in order to make a difference in Orange County. We look forward to sharing their stories as part of the 25th anniversary Tribute celebration,” said Christine Sadowski, Executive Director, YWCA Orange County.

Tribute to Orange County Women of Achievement is the County’s premier annual event recognizing the accomplishments and contributions of women and girls in the community. In celebration of the 25th anniversary, this year’s event was filled with special presentations and recognitions to mark the rich history of women in Orange County and the continuing contributions of the Tribute sisterhood of alumnae.

More than 250 women from throughout Orange County have been recognized since the award’s inception in 1992. This year’s Tribute honorees were recognized at the 25th Anniversary Tribute to Women of Achievement of Orange County award celebration at Anthony’s Pier 9.
