Empire Resorts Generous Donation Benefits 56 Local Families

GOSHEN – Catholic Charities Community Services of Orange and Sullivan was the grateful beneficiary of tables and chairs from Monticello Raceway and Casino, an Empire Resorts property in Monticello. Catholic Charities distributed the donation of 66 tables and 117 chairs to clients served by the not-for-profit human service agency.

“When Empire Resorts began renovation of the buffet dining area at the Raceway, we found ourselves with tables and chairs that had plenty of use left in them, but didn’t fit the remodeling plans,” said Shawn Wiles, Executive Director of Racing & Facilities at Monticello Casino & Raceway. “We reached out to the folks at Catholic Charities to see if they might know of a use for them in the community. When we heard they had clients who could use them, we were happy to pass them along. We’re so glad that the furniture found good homes,” continued Wiles.

Through Catholic Charities Resource Exchange, which distributes donations of gently-used furniture and household items to those in need, the agency was able to help 56 families in Orange and Sullivan Counties with the generous donation.

“For many of us, sitting down at the kitchen table to share a meal as a family is something we take for granted,” said Ali Curtis, Director of Catholic Charities Resource Exchange. “But for those struggling to make ends meet this isn’t always the case. We are so fortunate that Empire Resorts is a good corporate neighbor and believes in giving back to the community in which they live and work. Thanks to them, the recipients of the furniture are able to enjoy the simple pleasure of dining together,” Curtis added.
