Ulster Savings Awards $5k Grant to San Miguel

NEWBURGH – The Ulster Savings Charitable Foundation recently had the pleasure of awarding a grant to an amazing Newburgh-based non-profit organization.  The following is a summary of the grant:

Nonprofit (recipient) Name: San Miguel Academy of Newburgh (SMAN)

Grant amount: $5,000

Purpose of grant: The Charitable Foundation’s grant will support SMAN’s Summer Scholars Program, a 6-week program for upcoming 5th-8th grade students focusing on increasing academic skills (with particular emphasis on Math and English), plus skill-building through hands-on Maker Learning projects.  In their eleventh year, SMAN has served over 170 families and has a 100% 8th grade on-time graduation rate, as well as a 96% high school on-time graduation rate for their students.  All of their high school graduates have gone into college or career training programs or are currently employed.
