More Than $787k In Funding Announced for Poughkeepsie

POUGHKEEPSIE – U.S. Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer and U.S. Senator Kristen Gillibrand announced $787,692 in federal funding for the City of Poughkeepsie. The funding was allocated through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program to support various economic development initiatives, sidewalk and infrastructure improvements, and enhancing programming for families, children, and the homeless.

“Improving and investing in our cities and the people who live there is essential for the health and wellbeing of our families and seniors, and boost the economic strength of our communities,” said Senator Schumer. “This CDBG funding will enhance the City of Poughkeepsie’s neighborhoods by upgrading dilapidated sidewalks and providing essential infrastructure upgrades and public service funds to aid the families and homeless of Poughkeepsie.”

“These CDBG funds will allow the City of Poughkeepsie to invest in public service programs and move forward with ongoing projects to renovate, and make long overdue repairs to aging infrastructure,” said Senator Gillibrand, a member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. “This investment will help strengthen the city’s infrastructure while supporting programs to help the homeless and families in need. I will always fight in the Senate to make sure that our communities have the resources to invest in critical infrastructure projects.”

“We are grateful that Senator’s Schumer and Gillibrand have obtained funding for the City of Poughkeepsie.  This funding provides assistance to upgrade hazardous sidewalks in distressed neighborhoods, provides vehicles and hoses for the fire department, repairs to the financial plaza deck parking lot and public service funds to assist the elderly, children, and the homeless in our community,” said City of Poughkeepsie Mayor Rob Rolison.

Community Development Block Grants are provided to state and local governments to help expand economic opportunities, provide decent housing and suitable living environments for low-to-moderate income individuals.
