O.C. Hosts Annual Senior Forum at SUNY Orange

MIDDLETOWN – Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus and Office for the Aging Director AnnMarie Maglione hosted the 19th annual Senior Forum at SUNY Orange’s Middletown campus on Friday.

“Today was a great day of celebration for Orange County’s seniors, who mean so much to our community,” Neuhaus said. “AnnMarie and her staff did a wonderful job highlighting the many exciting and educational programs we provide for our older residents. I enjoyed getting the opportunity to speak with so many seniors at this informative event. The Office for the Aging and I are always looking for opportunities to listen to our County’s older adults and provide them with resources to enhance their quality of life and assist them and their families.”

The Senior Forum theme this year was “Seniors don’t retire, they inspire.” Activities at the Senior Forum included Office for the Aging Director AnnMarie Maglione’s 2017 Public Hearing.

She provided a short slide presentation, featuring Office for the Aging events, programs, and activities from the previous year, and discussed goals for 2018.  Public input and questions were taken after the presentation.

County Executive Neuhaus also took time to visit with those in attendance to meet with them and listen to their issues. Following the program, there were informative workshops, held in SUNY Orange’s Bio-Tech and Edward A. Diana Physical Education Building. Some topics included The Pharmacy in Your Kitchen, Flower Arranging, Basic Information Technology, The Groove dance class, Legal Services of the Hudson Valley, How to Get the Most out of Medicare, Be your Own Handyman and Tips and Tools for Self-Independence.

Orange County Sheriff Carl E. DuBois and District Attorney David Hoovler’s office led a Fraud, Theft, Safety and Scams class with the County’s Consumer Affairs Office.

“We were delighted to host this educational and fun-filled day with County Executive Neuhaus,” Maglione said. “The breakout sessions included a variety of diverse topics aimed at addressing issues that matter to seniors, providing them with a variety of information and access to the tools they need to remain safe and healthy.”
