MSMC Blue Knights Suffers Straight Set Losses

HARTFORD, CONN. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women’s Volleyball team was back in action on Saturday, falling to Maine Maritime 16-25, 27-29, 20-25 and host Trinity (Conn.) 16-25, 19-25, 14-25. Sophomore Morgan Burke posted six kills in each contest for the Knights.

Maine Maritime 3 – Mount Saint Mary 0

The Knights opened play with a 27 kill performance against Maine Maritime and held the edge in the match in blocks 7-3. Maine Maritime hit .267 as a team in the contest, with 35 winners, and finished with a 12-5 edge in service aces.

Senior Megan Williams paced the Mount’s offensive attack in the first match of the day with seven kills and a .333 attack percentage. Williams rounded out the tilt with a team-high four total blocks. Burke and Ally Klesin put away six kills each in the match, with Klesin lifting eight digs.

Junior Kim Gries handed out 24 assists in the match and added seven digs, with Julimar Figueroa leading the team with 14 digs to go along with a pair of service aces. Jackie Survilla rounded out the match with 10 digs for the Knights.

Maine Maritime was paced by 12 kills and a .393 attack percentage from Maggie MacMahon and received eight winners each from Alexa Cacacie and Jessica D’Auria. Sydney Adams led all players with 32 assists, while MacMahon posted a match-high four service aces.

Trinity 3 – Mount Saint Mary 0

Mount Saint Mary hit in negative numbers for the third time this season against the Bantams, committing 22 attack errors against only 21 kills. Trinity finished the tilt with a 34-21 edge in kills and an 8-3 edge in both total blocks and service aces.

Burke hit .385 for the Knights in the loss and led the team with six kills, adding three blocks. Klesin and Renee Hydo supported the offensive attack with five kills apiece for the Mount.

Gries recorded 15 of the team’s 18 assists in the match to go along with a pair of digs, with Figueroa leading three players with double-figures in digs with 14. Hydo lifted 10 for the Mount and Survilla totaled 11 against the Bantams.

Trinity was led by seven kills from a trio of players, including Rachel Underwood who led the team with 12 digs and four service aces. Rebecca Chu handed out a match-high 26 assists with Grace Metry adding 11 digs.

Saturday’s sweep drops Mount Saint Mary to 3-13 overall on the season.
