Stormville Man Wins $1M Lottery Scratch-Off Prize

The New York Lottery  introduced Joseph Corsello of Stormville as New York’s newest Lottery millionaire. He joins a growing list of Dutchess County Lottery players who have won a prize of $1 million or more in 2017. Other recent winners include James and Sylvia Silverance of Poughkeepsie who split a $10 million prize on the eponymous $10,000,000 Cash scratch-off game in January and Richard Green of East Fishkill who took home his $1 million Mega Millions 2nd prize in April.

Corsello, a 62-year-old fencing contractor, earned his place on the list by matching the number 16 on a Super Tripler Cash scratch-off ticket purchased on his way to work.

“I stop every morning for coffee and a few Lottery tickets. I was going to buy three of the Super Tripler Cash tickets but decided to get four this time,” said Corsello, who just celebrated his 40th wedding anniversary with his wife, Carol.

Corsello said he scratched three of the four tickets before clocking in at work without any luck and then noticed a match on the number 16 on the second line of the fourth ticket.

“I scratched the prize underneath and saw the words ‘Jackpot – $1 Million.’ I immediately thought of my wife and how lucky I was to find her. I just want to make life easier for her,” he said.

The father of two and grandfather of two said he plans to continue working, but without all the stress that comes with worrying about retirement. “I feel like a huge burden has been lifted off my back,” adding, “I think sometimes, luck just finds you.”

Corsello chose to receive his $1 million prize as an annuity. He will continue to receive annual payments of $50,000 (net $33,090) through 2036. He said the extra cash will provide a nice cushion for him and his wife during their retirement years.

Corsello purchased his $1 million-winning ticket at Hopewell Premium Gas (dba Sunoco) located at 1113 Route 82 in Hopewell Junction.

The New York Lottery contributed $43,400,515 in Lottery Aid to Education to school districts in Dutchess County during fiscal year 2016-2017.
