Mount Selected Sixth In Skyline Preseason Poll

NEW YORK – The Mount Saint Mary College Men’s Basketball team has been picked to finish sixth in the conference standings it was announced in the Skyline Conference Preseason Poll that was released recently. The Knights picked up 59 points in the poll voted on by the league’s 11 head coaches.

Defending league champion Farmingdale State sits atop the poll with an even 100 points, including all 10 possible first place votes. Purchase earned 88 points from the head coaches and the remaining first place vote.

Yeshiva sits in third place with 71 tallies and the top half of the league shakes out with Old Westbury (68) in fourth, St. Joseph’s-L.I. (60) in fifth and the Knights in sixth. The Mount returns its top three scorers from last season’s team, including Second Team All-Conference pick Gerard Nocera who paced the Knights with 15.7 points per contest as a junior.

Maritime sits in seventh just a single point behind the Knights with the College of Mount Saint Vincent (33), Sarah Lawrence (31), St. Joseph’s-Brooklyn (21) and the United States Merchant Marine Academy (16) rounding out the field.

Coming off a 2016-17 season that saw the Mount go 12-12 overall and 7-9 in league play, the Knights open the 2017-18 season on November 15 with a road tilt at Penn State-Abington. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
