Mt. Gulian Historic Site Celebrates the Season

Mount Gulian Historic Site, the Dutch Colonial home of the Verplanck family, invites visitors to unwind during the busy holiday season by joining us for a close-to-home, relaxing time of good cheer, good food and good company.

The homestead’s rooms will be beautifully decorated in different fashions, with opulent Victorian décor adorning the room once used for dining; to simple, rustic, natural pieces decorating the room that served as the study; to contemporary holiday displays embellishing the home’s main room.  Each room, of course, will be lit by candlelight.  Adding to the golden glow of candlelight and the twinkle of holiday decorations, the museum’s collection of fine decorative pieces will contribute to the home’s beauty and comfort.

A special holiday program will be offered on Sunday, December 17 from 4 to 7 p.m.  In addition to tours, holiday wassail and desserts will be available with our compliments.  And at 5pm visitors will be entertained by local storyteller, Lorraine Hartin Gelardi.

One reviewer wrote, “Lorraine’s expressive face and gestures season the words and sounds of her stories. She is mesmerizing. The energy she generates with an audience warms and fills the space, as does the laughter and the smiles it produces.”  Another review states, “Her commanding narration and animation engages all the senses. Lorraine’s audience can smell, see, hear, touch and practically taste the circumstances that her well defined characters find themselves when encountering life’s vagaries.”

For those visitors who can’t make the Sunday program, Mount Gulian will be open for Holiday Candlelight Tours on Tuesday and Wednesday, December 19 and 20, from 1pm to 5pm, with the last tour at 4 pm.
